Northern Spain Recycling Expansion Powered by WANSHIDA Scrap Metal Baler
September 8, 2025
Recycling plants in northern Spain face dual challenges: limited floor space and the need for high-volume processing. To address these demands, a regional recycling enterprise partnered with WANSHIDA to install the versatile Y83/T-250B scrap metal baler, ensuring efficient operations in a compact facility.
The plant required equipment capable of compressing a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals into uniform, transport-ready bales. The hydraulic scrap baling machine from WANSHIDA delivers a 250-ton cylinder force and operates at a maximum working pressure of 25 MPa. With a compression chamber measuring 2000×1750×900 mm, it creates 500×500 mm bales in just 90 seconds. Powered by a 90 kW motor, the system achieves 5 tons of output per hour while reducing energy usage by about 15 % compared to older machines.
CE-certified installation was completed on schedule. Operators quickly adapted to the PLC control system and highlighted the safety benefits of the push-out discharge. The metal recycling baler provides consistent performance even during continuous 24-hour shifts, enabling the plant to meet growing demand without additional floor space.
Within the first quarter of operation, the facility reported a 35 % increase in daily processing volume and a 22 % reduction in transportation costs. Dense, uniform bales created by the scrap metal press optimize container loading and decrease shipping frequency, lowering carbon emissions and meeting EU environmental guidelines.
Management noted that the high-capacity hydraulic metal baler has become central to their long-term growth strategy. By improving efficiency and reducing operating costs, the equipment allows the plant to reinvest savings into new recycling initiatives and employee training.
This northern Spain case demonstrates how a single upgrade with a modern scrap metal baler—supported by WANSHIDA—can enable medium-sized plants to expand production capacity, maximize space, and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving recycling market.
